Elmo the Bear
September 19th 2009 by Mark Singleton ( 2 Comments » )Caroline sent in these photos of her dog. This is Elmo or “Elmo the Bear” to give him his full title. He’s a Standard Poodle cross Golden Retriever and will be two years old on November 23rd this year.
Elmo did not have a good start in life and three owners before us yet he was only 20 weeks old when he arrived in our home. Elmo’s coat is a loose curl and if not groomed, will grow to around 7 inches in length. This tends to get matted so we have him clipped regularly.
He is the most laid back dog you’ll ever meet and has never had “a cross word” for anyone. He suffered from panosteitis when he was younger and needed hydrotherapy to help his muscles develop and whilst he’ll never take part in any races, he runs with our other dogs quite happily.
So he’s cute, but does have a few nasty habits. He’ll belch with the best of them and does tend to take on a smell described to us as “granny’s house” or “ an old church” if not bathed regularly.
Elmo lives with six other dogs and seven cats and loves all of them. He sleeps on the bed with us most nights and at 40 kilos (about 90 pounds) than can be a little cosy.
Everyone we meet loves Elmo and whilst he is a little aloof, we’re sure he loves them back.”
